How to schedule someone with a "non-unique" name (updated 2/4/05 1:46 PM)

Issue: Difficult to distinquish individuals with similar names

Details: The calendar system no longer supports the use of middle initials so it is difficult to schedule a meeting with someone when there are several people with the same name.

Solution: The sure-fire way to schedule the exact person you want for a meeting is to use their full Cal Poly username in the name field. It is the same as their e-mail address.

For example, if there are multiple John Does, use the email address of the John Doe you want - e.g. jadoe@calpoly.edu

This technique will work for you with when scheduling meetings or looking for calendars with Microsoft Outlook and the Oracle Connector, with the Calendar web interface accessed through the Cal Poly Portal and with the desktop 'thick' calendar client software.

Note: ITS is investigating solutions to add distinct information about individuals to the various system address books and directories as a means of identification.

Outlook with OCFO

Issue: Deleted Items not displayed in Oracle Connector for Outlook (OCFO). (updated 2/10/05 10:00AM)

Shortly after the update to Oracle Calendar from OpenTime, a problem was identified by people using MS Outlook and OCFO (Oracle Connector for Outlook).

The problem:

Outlook users get an error message when they try to display the contents of the server-side 'Deleted Items' mail folder.

The problem has now been resolved by applying a server setting, at Oracles' recommendation.

Outlook users will not have to take any action - when they next start up Outlook, logging into the Mail and Calendar systems, they will see the 'Deleted items' folder display correctly.

The server-side setting was applied at approximately 10:00 am, February 10th.
